Brow Lift Q & A

What is a brow lift?

A brow lift is a surgical procedure that improves the positioning of the eyebrows to restore a more youthful look. When combined with a forehead lift, as done with endoscopic brow lifting, it may also smooth out the wrinkles in the forehead.

Forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and sagging eyebrows may make you appear angry and tired. A brow lift opens the face and eyes, refreshing your natural look.

Am I a candidate for a brow lift?

Dr. Gupta conducts a thorough examination when you come in for a consultation before making any specific treatment recommendations.

A careful assessment is done taking into consideration not just the brow position, but also the eyelids, forehead, hairline, underlying anatomy, and the structure of your face. Based on these considerations, as well as your general health, you may be a candidate for surgical brow lifting procedures.

For patients who do not wish to have surgery or are not good candidates for surgery, brow position can be subtly changed with Botox, also known as a ‘Botox browlift’. This provides a non-invasive way to improve brow position, but treatment will need to be repeated for ongoing results.

What are the types of brow lift procedures performed by Dr. Gupta?

Dr. Gupta customizes your brow lift surgical plan based on your need, using various procedures and techniques. The types of surgical brow lift procedures include:

Endoscopic brow lift

The endoscopic brow lift is a minimally invasive technique that uses hidden incisions to lift the forehead and brow. During this procedure, Dr. Gupta makes a series of small incisions just behind your hairline.

She then uses small surgical cameras and thin instruments to release and lift your forehead and brow.

Temporal incision brow lift

For the temporal incision brow lift, Dr. Gupta makes an incision at the temple along your hairline on both sides of your head. Through these incisions, she selectively lifts the temporal or outer brow, keeping the position of the inner brow stable.

Dr. Gupta may perform browlifts in combination with other eye procedures such as blepharoplasty.

Browpexy

Browpexy is a technique used to minimally elevate and stabilize the eyelid through an upper eyelid incision. It is typically performed at the time of upper eyelid blepharoplasty and does not require an additional incision. Dr. Gupta may recommend this procedure if you have mild eyelid drooping. Browpexy does not address the forehead, and will not impact forehead lines or wrinkles.

How long is recovery following a brow lift?

Recovery following a brow lift varies. Dr. Gupta provides you with specific instructions to help ensure a quick recovery. You can expect swelling and bruising for up to two weeks.

You may be able to resume light activities within a week of surgery and most of your other activities within four weeks.

You should see improvements in your look immediately despite the post-surgical side effects.
